Our Christmas Eve traditions changed a lot this year. Long story short, Mini asked just enough of the right questions to tell us she was ready to hear about Santa. I was not prepared for this day to come so soon, let me tell you.
But what we started was a pretty cool tradition. When we came home from the Christmas Eve service, we gave the kids one present to open that night – new pajamas, a Christmas movie, popcorn, and a box of candy. They were so surprised! We stayed up late for both movies. We flipped a coin and watched Mini’s Barbie movie first, then Max’s. Believe it or not, he was SO excited to get a Veggie Tales dvd. This one has Si Robertson in it, and he thought it was down right hilarious. (It was good – one of the best Veggie Tales. I loved it.)
It was so hard for them to go to sleep that night, of course. And Mini was up in the middle of the night because she was coming down with a cold, so that was, in a word, horrible.
But on Christmas morning we all slept in until 9:30.
The kids still hurried down the stairs, and they were genuinely excited about and willing to wait for the grand opening of presents (of course they were, who was I kidding?). First, Mike read the story from Luke 2, then we calmly started unwrapping our gifts.
Uh-huh. Calmly. Max gave her those pom poms (spent with Awana bucks from the Awana store) and he had already failed to keep them a secret, but as you can see, it didn’t matter. Her enthusiasm for a pair of dollar store pom poms was impressive (and kinda startling). And that’s with having a cold.
Here are some more pics of our morning and afternoon. Such a fun Christmas!
