The end of year Awana Cubbies award ceremony was so cute. Mini loved going to Cubbies each week and she finished her first book of verses. Go, Mini!
We are big fans of Awana and how they make it fun to learn Bible verses and if I could brag about our leaders, please allow me. They are amazing with the kids and give so much of their heart. Everyone is busy and they sacrifice a lot of personal time in order to serve. Awana is a ministry that Mike oversees and I can tell you from a wife’s perspective, the leaders make it easy for him! Ok, ok, not easy – he works really hard too, but you know what I mean. 🙂 We’re just really excited over God’s blessing. Our small church building is busting at the seams with kids that come each week.
Thanks for letting me do that. Back to the Cubbies night! The kids were so cute, they sang a few songs up on stage and I made a brief video of my favorite clips. Mini is the last girl standing on the right. Keep your volume down low, though. Song #2 comes in with a bang, but I don’t want you to miss it. So funny.
That kid stands out from the crowd, doesn’t he? Hmm, I wonder who he might remind me of?
Max was Big Brother on top of things re: the Cubbies award ceremony. He woke up the next morning and surprised Mini with his world famous Yummy Bananas and made her a poster. He asked her what her favorite thing about Cubbies was. She answered, “I like everything!” and he said, “yeah, me too.”
Considering he had some rocky travels during his Cubbies years, I’m glad he remembers them with fondness. Did I ever tell you about the time that they were afraid they lost Max? He had sneaked into another classroom with another Cubbie friend and they hid under the table.
Meanwhile, the school we were renting was on LOCKDOWN! Mike came to pick up Max from Cubbies and the first thing he hears when he walks in is a woman yelling down the hall, “We’re in Lockdown! A Cubbie is missing! Nobody leave the building!”
It was our boy. He was found in no time. He said that he and the girl were going on a camping trip.
Oh my goodness, the drama of Max’s Cubbies years.
Anyway, back to Mini. There wasn’t much drama during Cubbies for her, in fact her group leader said she was pretty quiet. With the exception of telling her leader that the twins, Franco and Esteban were doing something they shouldn’t have been doing. But every night she left Cubbies hyper as can be, went upstairs to round up as many older kids as she could to play Duck, Duck, Goose, and then sang every song she knew at the top of her lungs on the way home.
She loved the crafts, puppet shows, songs, games, Bible stories, snacks (sometimes getting a special package of Oreo sticks with icing when a bakery label had a warning about tree nuts, which was fine with her) and laughing at the funny things the leaders did.
In other words, she loved everything. Mini, we’re so happy you love Cubbies and love to learn about Jesus and how much he loves you unconditionally. We’re proud that you earned your Book 1 award and bucket of goodies, too!
