Stories about Emmie

Reading

In Mini’s closet, I’ve kept a Rubbermaid container full of little readers like Bob books and Hooked on Phonics that have been handed down to me over the years.  She’s been playing online games at Starfall.com (and More Starfall, which is a paid subscription that I love) for a while but she has had no interest in reading the little books before this week.

The bedtime routine has been extended (she knows how to work it!) and we’re having some fun together as a family at night.  Here are some pictures that I took of her reading her first books cover-to-cover. 🙂

She loves having her time in the spotlight.  Feeling super confident and proud of her new book reading abilities, she didn’t think twice about pulling down two books from the big bookshelf last night.  Of course, these are books she can’t read on her own yet, but it didn’t phase her.  We were sitting as her captive audience on the couch and she loved it.

After a grand presentation, she took a vote, then decided on the one she wanted to read in the first place.

But she felt sorry for us based on our disappointment that we didn’t get to read about Farmer Brown.  So she picked up the book again and said, “okay, your wish will now come true.”

She is the funniest little girl.

  1. Ohh, we LOVE Bob books! Aren’t they the greatest? A friend told us about them when my kids were younger, and it was like MAGIC how quickly they learned to read! We also love, love, loved the Leap Pad videos Letter Factory and Talking Word Factory. Magic, I tell you. 🙂

    1. I love the Bob books. Watching kids read for the first time is so fun
(okay…not all the time but most of the time). These books do seem
magical. I’ll have to check out those videos at the library. I saw one of
      them the other day. Thanks!

  2. So cute! The last time I watched her, she kept asking to read more bible stories before she went to sleep. How do you say no to that?!
