My dad came over this evening for dinner and since his birthday is next Wednesday, we went ahead and celebrated. The kids made cards for him and as a special treat I had my friend, Sara, make two of her famous pies for the occasion.
Sara Lee, you outdid yourself. Mmm Mmmm.
The chocolate pie was delicious, but I only took a tiny bite. I’m trying to be good after a weekend of gluttony and eat more fruit in my diet. So I had a very large piece of key lime.
We had a great evening with Granddad. He came over after having lunch with old colleagues from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and a quiet afternoon at his favorite hangout spot: the scientific library of another government agency. So, in other words, we offered him a nice contrast to any and all events held previously in his day.
The kids were on the wild side tonight. They were at an Easter egg hunt earlier and there’s just no settling down from the excitement of finding hidden brightly colored eggs in a wide open field of grass. (more pictures to come on another post) The friends, the candy, the holiday hoopla. And a birthday celebration with Granddad? Oh my. They were hurrying me to the car so we could get home in time.
Mini was especially excited because she was involved in this party from beginning to end. She got to push a kid’s size grocery cart to buy the items we needed for dinner, and she helped me make vegetable soup in the crock pot. She set the table and also helped serve cheese, crackers, and grapes for Granddad in the living room once he arrived. She even provided reading material for him as soon as he sat down on the couch: a photo book with pictures of her from last year.
And she provided the entertainment, too. She asked him how old he was going to be and then managed on her own to count all the way up to that number. lol
Happy Birthday, Dad. We love you!
