Max crawled into bed with us in the wee early morning hours complaining that his bones hurt. I suspected a fever since he came down with Round 2 of the stomach virus yesterday but he didn’t feel especially hot. I told him to come on in, we’ll make room.
About 6:30 I still couldn’t get back [...]

Blanket For Mini
Posted in Adoption (Open), All About Mini on February 28, 2009 | 7 Comments »
During the Thanksgiving break, John & Anna put together a care package of gifts and blankets to send to us for Christmas. They are some of the most giving people I’ve ever met. Seriously. Thank you for all of the sweet treasures!
This blanket for Mini was super cute. Did I mention that John and Anna [...]

Thank you all for your sweet words of encouragement.
I had a very, very long day and my foot hurts.
But I made a small bowl of guac.
I mashed half an avocado with a fork, threw a tablespoon of chopped red onion in, some salt, and squeezed just a little bit of a lemon. I had no [...]

Back in December I made a phone call to Colorado and spoke with a waiting mom in the adoption pool at our agency. I had never met her before, but a counselor asked me if I’d be willing to talk and listen and encourage her in the midst of the wait.
We hit it off right [...]
The First Sentence Is The Hardest

How many tries does it take for Anna to type a first sentence?
One: I’ve been feeling quite reflective lately…blah blah blah.
Two: There’s a lot on my mind….yadda yadda.
Three: Anyone want to skip the whole introductory paragraph thing and look at a list of what’s been on my mind?
Third time is a charm!
Guess who has writer’s [...]
Open Adoption – A Letter From Mini’s Birth Grandmother

The same weekend that we met A. & J. for the first time, we had dinner with A’s parents and sisters at their home. I’ve got to say, meeting A’s parents gave me big-time butterflies. I wanted to make a good impression and not say stupid things. I’m sure I did anyway (in fact, I’m [...]
Adoption Day

Today we went to court to finalize Mini’s adoption. To officially stand before the judge and witness his official signature on our petition. To be officially named as Mini’s parents forever and ever.
It is, therefore, official.
Our attorney, who is extremely nice and wonderful, wrote in a letter to us that we should feel welcome to [...]
On Being An Adoptive Mom

I’m really proud to be an adoptive mom and this time of year, as Max’s birthday approaches, I give weighty thought to how our family came to be.
It’s kind of sad to word it this way, but we are a family that simply wouldn’t exist without Loss. First, our infertility, then J. and A.’s (birth [...]
Mini’s Birthmom

I was so moved by reading A’s words in her comment on my last post and I just wanted to write something back to her in the presence of all of you – since you have been such a big part of our story, too.
Hi A.,
You are always so thoughtful and kind and your sweet [...]

I can’t find the words to write what I want to. I’ve started three different posts about Mini and I can’t make it through a single one. My goal was not to write a post that would make you cry but the fact is, I’m so emotional tonight. Mike’s away on business and I miss [...]
