1. School is back in session starting Monday. Ahhh. I was so excited to go to Wal-mart and check out the Back to School aisle – the folders, binders, beautiful, colorful, vibrant markers – but all they had were stacks of unopened cardboard boxes on a crate. How can this same store be up and ready for Christmas by Labor Day but not have notebooks and crayons displayed by the time I decide to start school in July? What is wrong with this world??
2. My eye is feeling great. I started using a night-time ointment on the inside of my eyelid instead of eye drops which makes a big difference. Do you realize how many eye drops and ointments there are in the drug store? I’m using GenTeal PM and it’s like ten million dollars but the doctor recommended it. Plus, he suggested that I try to get out of the habit of suddenly opening my eyes when I wake up in the morning so I bought myself a siesta mask at Rite Aid. Oh, it’s a beauty.
The mask is really for my brain. When I wake up out of my nightly coma, the first thing I am thoughtful about is how I am completely in the dark but oh yeah, I’m wearing a mask, that explains it. That, in turn, reminds me to move my eyeball from left to right before opening my eyes, preventing another scratch. I’ve had many fleeting scratches over the past few months in addition to the three biggies, possibly because of the combination of dry eye and a sudden hello of my eyeball to the light of day. So now I’m anxious. GAH, did I just share all that with you? The question isn’t what’s wrong with this world, it’s What is wrong with ME? Plus, do I overuse the comma or what?
3. Mike is going to Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, on a missions trip at the end of this month. He is leading a group of students and adults to go over there and serve at a Young Life camp, helping them as they get some practice speaking English and being real examples for the love of Christ. We’ve been praying hard for this trip. It just “happened” that a nice size group of students wanted to go – Mike didn’t go to them and do the asking. The Lord put it on their hearts and ISN’T THAT AWESOME? I’m anticipating some great stories of how God will use each of them. This trip has the potential of being a huge milestone in their personal life story. Pray with us! The trip is July 29-Aug 9.
4. I got a speeding ticket mailed to me. 41 in a 30. Stinks.
5. I’m secretly planning a trip to Disney World but Max doesn’t know this yet. We’re going the week after Thanksgiving (which is, you might recall, the same time frame as Mike’s birthday, our anniversary, and my birthday. Also known as the GREATEST WEEK OF THE YEAR.) I’m having so much fun and driving Mike crazy with details. I’ll wait to tell you more about it when the time gets closer since it’s still nearly 5 whole months away. You’re welcome. Right now we’re thinking of a fun way to tell Max and trying to decide when to tell him. Any creative ideas?
My, that was a wordy list. Hope you have a good weekend!

Last year around Christmas Disney offered this thing where you could arrange a “call from Mickey” on Christmas Day to tell your kids, family, whatever that they were going to Disney in the upcoming year. Pretty cute, but um.. you’ll be going before then. So that’s no help. Maybe clues for a week or well, until he figures it out. Start with hard clues one each morning maybe…. Little items, songs, I don’t know. Don’t tell him until you go, I’ve had friends do that. Me…no way could I do it. The planning, countdown, etc… is part of the fun at our house. Oh..order the planning DVD from the Disney Website, it’s free and then have a movie night, put it in and say guess what. Ok…. I’ll keep thinking, you know me Disney Queen and all. Another site (I told ya about allears.net) is Disboards.com and it’s super wonderful Disney forum. Well, there is a forum on the site. There are fabulous women (men too, but the women are more chatty) who probably have a thread with ideas. It’s a great site.
Can’t wait to hear details and I just realized I think we’re close enough to book dining reservations for our trip, woowhooo- I hear you can do it now online and need to go check that out. …. Now this comment is almost as long as your post
Bummer about Wal-Mart not being ready–didn’t they get your memo?
Glad your eye is doing better. That’s a lot to think about before even opening your eyes.
Exciting news for Mike and the group of teens! What an experience!
Do you know anyone in Florida that could mail Max a letter about the trip, like it’s from Mickey? Maybe Disney even offers something like that. Or send it yourselves and kind of *fake* the FLA postmark.
I like the movie night Disney DVD too. Sorry I don’t have more creative ideas. I haven’t had my morning coffee yet.
Disney… very fun!
When we lived in MD, and the kids were little, we took the kids on a surprise trip to Disney World and didn’t tell them anything until they saw the signs above the road as we drove in. I couldn’t believe they didn’t ask us on our TWO day drive! We got video of them as they figured out where we were going. It was so much fun to surprise them and they were SO excited.
If you are flying you could blindfold him or somehow distract him until you get to the airport in Orlando. There’s plenty of Disney there to surprise him with.
We love Disney. You all will have a WONDERFUL time. Where are you staying? I can’t wait to hear more about your planning and your trip!
What are your favorite colors?
Disney – oh, I hope we can work out to go in the next year! Don’t have any fun ideas of how to tell him… wish I did!
Glad your eye is getting better!
We have always told our kids a while in advance of a WDW trip (gone twice), but I always think that I would love, love, love to just wake them up one morning and tell them that we are going to Disney World…or better yet, see if they can figure it out as we are on the way. I just think that would be SO much fun to have it be such a surprise!
If you want to go with Holly’s idea, I have a sister who lives near Orlando that could mail something I’ll bet. Despite my love of the surprise, there is something to be said for anticipation and counting down the days that are left!
I’m still confused about the whole opening your eyes when you first wake up. What are your other options?
And I love commas. Love ‘em!
Glad your eye is feeling better!
Will be praying for your family the week Mike is gone! God is so AWESOME!!
Homeschooling is so fun! We have tons of school supplies up in our stores since school starts mid-August here! I used to never buy “school supplies” but I went last year and it was sooo fun that I’m going to do it with my little guy every year!
I hate tickets…they are such a drag!
Disney World will be so much fun for your family! I heard a lot of different ways to “tell” the kids. My favorite suggestion was to put together a scavenger hunt with hints of things you will be doing! Can’t wait to hear the details come together!
