1. Oh, this girl. She looks so happy, doesn’t she? Looks can be deceiving.

She had a hard week. It was Tooth Eruption ‘O9 – she got four new ones. Lucky for us she didn’t wake up in the middle of the night but her naps were choppy at best and she had a fever, runny nose, and didn’t want to have anything to do with a sippy cup. Good news, she’s got quite an arm for a future in t-ball.
2. I had a long week too. I tried to be productive but with a moody toddler who never fell asleep, it was rather difficult to plan my day. I felt disorganized and exhausted as I walked around in circles past laundry piles and stacks of clutter that didn’t entice me toward them. Individual packets of Fun Dip, however, called my name every time I walked by Max’s Easter basket. Yeah, I asked him to share. He said “sure, you can have ONE” I had several. I don’t want him to get cavities.
3. In spite of all this, it was a good homeschooling week. I started writing up a simple schedule everyday while he does some sort of warm up activity. This has been very beneficial and keeps him engaged. He has to earn a sticker for each subject in order to get to play computer games. Each morning I tell him one or two things I’m especially looking for in his behavior, i.e. listening the first time, slow and careful work, etc. He likes this system a lot.

4. I don’t know if it’s a great thing, but I don’t really plan all that much in our homeschooling. I mean, he has a bunch of workbooks so planning isn’t required this year. I’d like to do more unit studies next year, though. At any rate, the good thing about not being a planning person is that when you realize it’s April 15th, you say, “hey, I have an idea. Let’s learn how to count by 5’s today.” And something really fun happens as a result.

Nickels become bad guys and they are taken to jail. Then they become wayward cattle that are driven back into the farm. Then they become…oh hey! I have an idea. Let’s have a snack. How’s Fun Dip sound?
5. The Easter Bunny heard that Max likes Legos and brought him his first Power Miners set. A new obsession was born. I took him to Target to buy another set with his own money and he was beside himself with joy.

He really was joyful even though this photo shows otherwise. But at this point he was kind of mad at me for making him pose for a stupid picture and delaying his Lego-making start. Oh, plus the sun was in his eyes.
Lego Power Miners are interesting and boy did I learn a lot about them this week. When Max is really into something and wants to talk non-stop about it, he’ll say “Mommy? Can we have a little conversation about Power Miners?” He delights in talking about every character, every tool, every machine, every whozit and whatsit in the whole ding dang Power Miner story. He even quizzed me on this stuff.
I told you it’s been a long week.
6. Okay, I know I’m done with my Five for Friday list but can I do one more? Doesn’t Mini look cute in her little white headband? I couldn’t believe that she tolerated it all afternoon. Her outfit (a hand-me-down from my niece) was so cute today, I just had to show you a picture.

I love tulips and grape hyacinths that come up out of the ground year after year. Maybe it’s because they require very little planning on my part.
Are you a planner? What’s your favorite garden flower? Do you know what Power Miners are? Like Fun Dip?
Can we have a little conversation?

Four teeth? Bless her heart… and yours. how torturing…
I don’t know. Wrapping up my second year of homeschooling- (and being an anal planner) I have to wonder how much planning is really necessary? it seems to me, not a lot. at all.
Oh yes my dear I am a planner. Hubs is not. I will never understand but I do try to appreciate our differences. Unfortunately we still don’t have landscaping – after 6 years in the house – but this spring/summer is the year! I really like any flowers but my fav is probably a yellow lily thing – I’m not sure what the name is. Power Miners?? No idear. But I’m pretty sure my day will come. Fun Dip – eewwww. I’m a chocolate girl all the way. I do have to agree with you that Mini is the absolute CUTEST with the headband. Belle has started wanting to wear her baseball cap all the time. At least it’s pink!
Um, what else? Oh ya, teeth. Not fun. Belle got like 7 at one time and now is getting 2 more in the front (she already has 4 – getting the next in line on either side – no idea what it’s called). We love the Hyland’s teething tablets, but unfortunately Belle is like addicted to them or something. She wants them everynight before we go to bed. Oh dear, what have we done!!??
Ok, I better got a moving. Thanks for the chat. Have a great weekend!
Oh, I’m laughing out loud at the Fun Dip comments!
I’m a planner, but sometimes not as much as I should be. And my official advice is don’t plan until you feel like their education is suffering and you have to. Their lives will be scheduled FOREVER.
I think your homeschool sounds fun!
Mini’s outfit is adorable.
I am a terrible planner and that makes life quiet interesting around here since my dh is a planner to the 10th power!
Homeschooling goes better if you plan week by week in my eyes! There are some weeks that go super smooth and some weeks that you can’t accomplish a single solitary thing…those are the weeks that seem to just happen and the kids tend to learn more than we could ever imagine!
As always your kids are adorable….thanks for sharing them with us!!
Sorry, but I have to ask. What’s an “anal” planner?
LOL
Hi Anna:
I am a planner … to the enth degree! We will begin our 11th year of homeschooling in the fall, (The boy will be a junior!) and I already have all of my curriculumum bought and ready to go. Homeschooling a college bound homeschooler requires thought. My favorite garden flowers are ranunculus. I don’t have any in my yard, but sure would like some. My boy is 16, so I have no idea what Power Miners are. However, we still have all sort of Legos around the house. No one plays with them, but I don’t have the heart to put them away. Fun Dip? I can’t! My boy likes to feed me sour candy just to watch my “looks like I’m sucking a lemon face”. Unless it’s chocolate it makes the hair on my arms stand up! Raisinets are my current favorite. Somehow, I’ve convinced myself that they are fruit, so I’m doing myself a favor by having a few every day. Clearly, there is some denial and delusion going on!
Your children are absolutely beautiful, and I delightful in learning about them through your loving mommy eyes. Because you love Jesus, your babies are adopted and you homeschool, reading your blog reminds me so much of our very happy early years, and I enjoy that blast from the past.
4 teeth in one week – good grief! Poor girl! But I guess it’s nice to have those behind you now…
I try to be a planner. Truly. But sometimes I just have to go with the flow – although it gets me all twisted up inside when my carefully laid plans go out the window.
I love tulips, and snapdragons, and vincas, and anything else that doesn’t die when I just look at it. I haven’t done much planting yet because we are still having some pretty severe freezes at night, but I need to.
Mini is so very cute!!!!! She’s got the cutest baby cheeks! LOL
Seriously – I’m SO stealing your schedule idea…and I’ll be writing it up on colored paper and doling out stickers…just like you! Yay! and Thank you!
I’ve got about a billion things that I *have* to get done this week – just lots of little odds and ends, and my sister is coming to stay for a while, and the kids need to get school done (so that we’re not still doing school when Bubba gets out of school)…and that planner is just the thing I (and they) need to keep us all on track.
Can I make one for me and have the kids give me stickers when I accomplish something?
Love the outfit on Mini too!
Me, planner? Not so much. I like vague plans, a shadow really. Now, I’m all about fun-dip, seriously, a stick of sugar to dip in more sugar. Perfect. A. had her first taste of it on Easter and I’m sure more will be in our future.
Love all your pictures! Mini looks precious in her headband and cutesy outfit.
Wish ya’ll lived closer – we’d have such fun homeschooling
Love the nickel jail!
Mary
Hey, I loved the idea you did for the daily schedule. I tried it the past 2 days and it has really helped us both stay on track.
